Ross started playing cricket at age five and learned how to be a top class cricketer by playing for Central Districts under 19s, then New Zealand under 19s before being selected for the Central Stags senior team.
He made his ODI debut for the BLACKCAPS in 2006 against the West Indies in Napier and featured in his first Twenty20 game later that year against Sri Lanka in Wellington. He stepped up to the crease in his debut test against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2007.
